Qualification Goals

Analytical and Scientific Understanding

You will develop a strong analytical and scientific understanding of complex mechanical systems, processes and interactions. The programme enables you to apply theoretical knowledge to practical challenges and to derive well-founded explanations for technical phenomena.
Development of Innovative Technical Solutions

You will strengthen your ability to identify and implement innovative technical design solutions. This will prepare you to contribute actively to future-oriented developments in mechanical engineering and related disciplines.

Admission requirements

When is the official application period for each semester?

Germany and EU countries

Applications for the Master's programme for the winter semester must be submitted by 15 July and for the summer semester by 15 January. The application is made online.

Non-EU countries

An application for the Master's programme for the winter semester must be submitted by 31 May and for the summer semester by 30 November. You can only apply at Leibniz University Hannover with preliminary review documentation (VPD) from uni-assist.
You must apply for this to uni-assist at least eight weeks before the application deadline for the study programme expires.
What are the requirements for a successful application for Mechanical Engineering?
Step 1:

You need a valid language certificate in English of minimum level C1. More information on the accepted certificates can be found here.

Step 2:

Bachelor's degree (at least 6 semester / 180 ECTS points) in Engineering or a similar previous degree programme with at least:
15 ECTS in Mathematics
15 ECTS in Design/Construction
15 ECTS in Technical Mechanics
10 ECTS in Electrical Engineering
10 ECTS in Materials Science
Important information!

Applicants must apply under the degree programme title Maschinenbau and will then be assigned to the ‘Mechanical Engineering’ track.

After the official application period, each application will be carefully processed. This takes some time. The official letters of admission and rejection are usually sent out via e-mail by the Admissions Office by the end of Juni for winter semester and by the end of January for summer semester.
