Power Engineering, B. Sc.

The Power Engineering course is an interdisciplinary course of study in which you will be taught elements of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in equal parts. In view of climate change, a growing world population and natural disasters, the question of technologies for the efficient generation and use of energy is becoming increasingly urgent. The degree course in Energy Engineering offers you a broad, scientifically-based education that is combined with practical aspects. The  Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is responsible for the coordination of the study programme.

What can you expect during your studies?

In the first four semesters of your studies, you will primarily study mathematical, scientific and technical basic subjects. Already in the first semester you will gain an insight into the broad spectrum of energy technology. Practical work and constructive projects as well as basic and specialized internships round off the course offerings. The last two semesters lead to an initial specialisation, which can also be supplemented by non-technical subjects such as energy law or energy economics.

Duration and conclusion

As a rule, the course of study takes 6 semesters. After passing the bachelor thesis you will receive the degree Bachelor of Science.

Apply at the Leibniz University of Hannover.

Areas of activity

As a graduate you will be able to work in the fields of turbine and generator construction as well as power plant and plant engineering. In addition, you can work in companies in the energy supply industry and for electricity network operators as well as for large-scale users of electrical energy and planning offices. On addition, you can further deepen your skills in the  Master's programme. At LUH, the corresponding Master's program in Energy Technology has been available to you since the winter semester 2014/15.
