When do I have to do the pre-study internship and what exactly is it?
For the Bachelor's degree programme in Sustainable Engineering, a so-called pre-study internship must be completed. The eight-week pre-study internship is compulsory, but must be successfully completed before registering for the elective modules from the fifth semester onwards, i.e. you can also use the semester break for your eight-week internship. However, it makes sense to complete the internship before you start your studies in order to acquire a basic understanding of the course content and to prevent time bottlenecks during your studies. The areas of activity to be covered are anchored in the internship regulations.
The pre-study internship serves to acquire initial practical experience in industrial production. Since you will later work as an engineer and also be allowed to use this job title, it is important to gain basic, initial experience in industry. Integrated into a working environment of trainees, skilled workers, teachers and technical staff with a predominantly executive character, you will get to know various basic production processes and equipment as well as operational procedures.

Specialist internship
What is the Specialist internship and where can I do it?
The twelve-week Specialist internship serves to gain experience in typical areas of responsibility and activity of graduates of the Bachelor of Sustainable Engineering in professional practice. Whether the Specialist internship is completed in the Bachelor's or Master's programme is basically up to you. If you decide to complete the internship only in the Master's programme, you choose in-depth elective modules in the Bachelor's programme instead.
If you are pursuing a Master's degree in Energy Technology or Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, please note that these degree programmes require a 16-week internship.
The Specialist internship is characterised by the integration of the interns into a working environment of persons in an engineering occupation or corresponding qualification with predominantly developing, planning or directing activity character. During the Specialist internship, interns should be integrated into the typical "day-to-day work" of their respective work environment to the greatest possible extent and in an actively contributing manner. In this way, they should get to know and observe in close contact typical tasks and working methods of professional engineers in their respective field.
