Information on the changeover to the new model examination regulations

The new model examination regulations for all degree programmes will come into force in the winter semester 2022/2023. These will apply to all students who are enrolled in one of the degree programmes in winter semester 22/23. When transferring to the new model examination regulations, all study and examination achievements already made will be recognised and transferred to the new examination regulations. No credit points will be lost. You can read the most important information about the new model examination regulations on this page.

The most important innovations of the examination regulations

  • 1. online registration and deregistration of exams

From the winter semester 2022/23 onwards, you can only register for and deregister from examinations online via the QIS portal. Participation in examinations can only be made possible for students who have registered within the registration period and are recorded on the registration list.

  • 2. uniform registration and examination periods (see also Annex 3.1 of the Examination Regulations)

For all forms of examination, there is a common registration period for the winter and summer semester, as well as a common examination period for each. Please refer to the table for the exact registration and examination periods. The registration and examination periods do NOT apply to BA, MA and student research projects; these can be registered at any time.

  • 3. new form of examination: course-related examination (VbP)

VbP is a form of examination (PF) that is taken during the semester. VbP serves as a "container" for a variety of PF, which are subsumed under VbP in the glossary of the PO. The concrete examination form of a VbP is determined and communicated by the examiners at the beginning of the semester, at least for the period of the semester in question.

Currently, only very few teachers at our faculty offer a VbP. Important: for VbPs, there is an early registration period for students (for the WS 15.10. to 31.10; for the SoSe 15.04. -30.04); example Mathematics: the short exams in Mathematics count as VbP and are registered accordingly in the period 15.10.-31.10.. The major Mathematics exam in the regular examination period, is registered in the regular registration period for the winter semester 15.11.-30.11.. Please also note: if the module is not originally administered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, but is imported from another faculty, the respective examination periods of the faculty apply.

  • 4. deadlines for deregistration (see also §15 Missing, Withdrawal and Extension of Deadlines of the Examination Regulations)

The inconsequence of non-attendance ends. In degree programmes with attempt counting, NER (non-attendance) is NO longer without consequences, but leads to "RTU - unexcused withdrawal with loss of attempt", unless an important reason is proven to the examination board (e.g. medical certificate). Students must therefore withdraw from an examination independently online within a set period of time. If this does not happen, the examination performance is deemed to be an unexcused withdrawal with loss of attempt. In addition, students have the option of withdrawing from an examination after the specified deadline by immediately submitting an application to the PA.

    Withdrawal deadlines for examinations:

    • Deregistration from an examination (K/KA): up to seven calendar days before the start of the examination (online)
    • Withdrawal from an oral examination (MP): in writing, by e-mail up to one calendar day before the start of the examination.

The grade symbols RTE, RTU and OWN remain in the student record and are also shown on grade transcripts. This enables students to prove to the BAföG office, among others, that examinations were not taken for important reasons. This distinction from a deregistration is a weighty argument in the context of a grant. In the hearing model, the potentially existing important reasons for the individual examinations are not evident in case of doubt and would have to be proven to institutions such as the BAföG office by the student in another way (e.g. minutes of the hearing).

  • 5. amendment of the consultation procedure

The separation into uncounted and counted hearings (PO 2017) has been abolished. In the new model examination regulations, the following applies: if a student does not achieve the 15 LP in the semester, the student is summoned to a hearing. In the Bachelor's programme, a maximum of 3 hearings are possible, in the Master's programme 2.

Please note: The hearings for the summer semester 2022, which will take place in November/December, will still be conducted according to the old examination regulations valid for the summer semester 2022 and thus the old procedure. The first hearing process according to the new MPO will be completed after the winter semester 22/23. The first hearings under the new regulations will consequently take place in the summer semester (June) 2023.
