Erasmus Programme

The ERASMUS+ programme aims to promote student mobility and cooperation in the field of education and higher education. It offers students the possibility of a stay abroad at a European partner university in one of the 28 member states of the European Union: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom. In addition, funding is also provided for stays in the associated countries Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland and Turkey.

The Erasmus programme provides support for a period of study abroad as part of the study programme of between three and twelve months per study cycle. General information about the Erasmus programme can be found on the website of the International Office.

Our faculty has many places available at various European universities. Here you will find a database in which all Erasmus cooperations of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering are stored (please select "Erasmus SMS" in the search mask under Program). If you are interested in a stay abroad via the Erasmus programme, you are welcome to come to the office hours of the study abroad advisory service of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Application procedure

The closing date for applications for the coming winter semester and the following summer semester is 15 January - so that in the best case the selection of students can take place before the upcoming semester break. Students must first apply online using the link provided by HI on its website (Moveon). Students create an applicant account, which after the nomination becomes a participant account, in which HI will administer the whole ERASMUS procedure and provide e.g. confirmation of participation and Learning Agreements. The data entered in the online application first feeds the application form, which students submit together with the following application documents:

  • detailed tabular curriculum vitae
  • Letter of motivation and/or letter of recommendation (here the institutes have the opportunity to recommend particularly motivated students)
  • Overview of grades
  • Language certificate (which must not be older than 2 years) - To check the existing knowledge of the language of instruction used at the host university (Generally, proof of English at B2 level is required. Knowledge of the national language is sometimes helpful, but not a prerequisite).
  • PDF document from the MoveOn Portal

You can indicate three universities of your choice in your application.

The documents should be submitted to the exchange coordinator, Karen Suarez, by e-mail: suarez@maschinenbau.uni-hannover.de.

Selection procedure

The transparent selection procedure will be based on the following criteria:

  • Language skills
  • Grade point average
  • Equal opportunities
  • Letter of recommendation and/or motivation

The selection is made centrally by the exchange coordinator, if necessary after consultation with the institutes. If there is a large number of applicants, a (pre-)selection can be made on the basis of the written application documents submitted, and if necessary a final selection can be made in a 10-minute selection interview in cooperation with the institutes.
